Background of Hotel Management Department
Like other departments in the university the hotel management is launched in 2017 under college of Business and Economics. In its founding year the department employed only one academic staff and presently the department have 1 technical assistant and 2 lecturers who are well experienced, very committed and curious to teach and to achieve the desired objective. Additionally, the department sent five academic staff for MA study in different Universities of Ethiopia.
In the founding year, the department start its work by receiving only 43 under graduate regular students and in 2021 academic year, (20 Male & 15 Female) under graduate regular students of the department have graduated in first round and similarly in the same year 36 ( 25 Male & 11 Female) regular undergraduate students have graduated from the department. Currently the department has 24 students of 3rd Year and well prepared to receive the new students as well.
In order to enhance learning and teaching the department has its own practical lab, which helps the students to do their practical work and to fill their knowledge and skill gap in addition to tutorial, advisory help and mentoring of the students. To effectively and efficiently accomplish its mandate and deliver quality services the department is working hard and to achieve the university mission and it’s vision.
Regarding research and community service the staff in the department have been participated actively, for instant in 2013 academic year the instructors deliver qualified training for hotel staff as part of the community service of the University and the department now developing it’s own 5 year plan of research and community service and the department is very committed to work with other institutions.
