Field Visit Was Held in the Process of Improving the Community-Based Sheep Breed Improvement

Injibara University, in collaboration with ICARDA (International Rainforest Agricultural Research Institute), is undertaking various activities to benefit farmers by developing the Dangle (Washera) sheep breed improvement, which is one the most productive resources in Awi Zone. Previously, with the support of ICARDA, 74 rams were bought for two rounds and distributed them to the farmers. In addition this, medical and material support were also provided. Generally the project benefited 615 farmer households. Field visit was conducted to evaluate the project in the presence of Dr. Aemero Tadesse, Vice President of Academic Affairs of the University, Prof. Berhanu Belay, former President of Injibara University and the current advisor of ICARDA, and Dr. Tesfaye Getachew, Small Ruminant CBBP Project Coordinator and other leadership of the university.                                                          ICARDA has also assured that it will continue to provide additional laboratory inputs to improve the quality of the sheep breeds with artificial insemination in the future.  Dr. Aemero said that Injibara University expects that Veterinary students will get practical training from this project beyond the community service.                                                                                                                                     March 28, 2022, Injibara University
