Injibara University successfully hosted its historic 1st International Research Conference on Artificial Intelligence, Cyber security, and the Digital Economy, convening university leadership, senate members, and an international cohort of scholars from Ethiopia, China, Kenya, Thailand, and the United States.
In his opening address, the University’s President Gardachew Worku (PhD) outlined a bold vision to align higher education with an AI-driven global industry. He emphasized that Injibara University is already leading this shift by exceeding national targets for the “5 Million Ethiopian Coders” initiative under the Digital Ethiopia 2030 strategy, and fully digitalizing core campus operations from student registries (SIMS) and online admissions to digital libraries and automated financial systems.
Organized by the Office of the Research and Community Service Vice-President, the conference featured 13 peer-reviewed research papers across three pivotal domains:
Artificial Intelligence: Breakthroughs in machine learning for ecosystem tracking, maternal nutrition prediction, early diabetic retinopathy screening, and plant disease detection, alongside studies on instructor AI literacy and industrial composite optimization.
Cyber security: Crucial digital threat mitigation frameworks focusing on malicious URL detection complemented by long-term hybrid machine learning benchmarking assessments for regional wind and grid resources.
Digital Economy: Impact analyses of digital finance on national financial inclusion, regulatory legal frameworks for AI-generated works, and Kenyan hospitality studies on smart hotel operations and sustainable AI/IoT waste management.
The landmark event concluded with an official certificate ceremony honouring the contributing global researchers, followed by a cultural tour of the Injibara University Museum.
