Association of Comprehensive Universities Launched at Madda Walabu University

The inaugural assembly of the Association of Comprehensive Universities officially commenced today at Madda Walabu University, marking a significant step in fostering collaboration among Ethiopian higher education institutions.

The two-day opening ceremony brings together representatives from various comprehensive universities across the country. The association aims to strengthen cooperation, address common challenges, and enhance academic and administrative excellence.

Ethiopian public universities are categorized into four groups based on their areas of specialization (differentiation), with comprehensive universities being one of these classifications. A total of 21 universities fall under this category, including Injibara University. These institutions periodically convene to discuss strategic initiatives and share insights in line with their educational missions.

The founding members of the association include Injibara, Madda Walabu, Metu, Gambella, Raya, Debre Tabor, Borena, Wachamo, Mizan Tepi, Bule Hora, Jinka, Salale, Werabe, Dambi Dollo, Debark, Bonga, Adigrat, Mekdela Amba, and Weldiya universities.

Representing Injibara University at the meeting is Dr. Wohabe Birhan, Vice President for Administration and Development, who is actively participating in discussions on the association’s objectives and future plans.

The establishment of the Association of Comprehensive Universities is expected to enhance collaboration, improve institutional development, and contribute to the overall quality of higher education in Ethiopia.
