Food and Post-harvest Technology

Food Science and Postharvest Technology (FSPT) department is one of the ten undergraduate level departments offered under College of Agriculture, Food and Climate Science (CAFCS), Injibara University, Ethiopia. The department provides 4 year degree program and it has 240 ECTS with 24 modules and 52 courses including internship.

The target of the department is to provide teaching, research and community service that contributes to national, regional and international efforts to promote new product development, food safety, Food quality as well food security and producing well trained graduates to meet the manpower requirement of in various food companies, higher educational  and research institutions. FSPT is an interdisciplinary subject that comprises; science, nutrition and technology as core professional competences in all aspects of food sectors.

The department was established in 2021 and admitted its first batch students during 2022/23 G.C. Now the department contains two (2nd and 3rd) BSc batches. Totally the department give service for 22 regular students in academic year of 2024 G.C by 5 active academic staffs (4 lecturers and 1 technical assistant). Staffs were actively engaged in academic affairs, research and community service.

The department have laboratory with some important equipment’s such as digital Uv-spectrophotometer, Drying oven, Water distiller, Autoclave, Water bath, Muffle furnace, Kjeldahl Protein analyzer, Digital balances etc
