Public Health

Public Health is  the science and art of preventing disease, prolonging life and promoting health through organized efforts and informed choices of society, organizations, public and private, communities and individuals (Winslow, 1920). The filed of public health has evolved as a multidisciplinary field that includes the use of basic and applied science, education, social sciences, economics, management, and communication skills to promote the welfare of the individual and the community. The history of public health has direct relationship with human health and development.  As result of its contribution to global health and development, many countries across the world give an emphasis to public health to give as education and training in various filed of public health specialities. Due to these public health departments opened by the Injibara Universities in 2022. The Department of Public Health at Injibara University is a prominent academic department dedicated to promoting public health and well-being in the community. Established with the mission to educate and train competent public health professionals, who can plays a vital role in addressing various health challenges and improving healthcare services in the nation.

Currently, the department has 24 staff members who are involved in teaching, research, and community engagement activities. As well, three staff members are currently on PhD study leave, pursuing advanced research in the fields of Public Health and Epidemiology. Furthermore, the department offers a diverse range of postgraduate programs to provide to the growing demand for specialized knowledge and skills in the field of public health. Currently, the department provides five postgraduate programs:

1. Master of Public Health (MPH) in Epidemiology, 2. Master of Public Health (MPH) in Health Promotion, 3. Master of Public Health (MPH) in Nutrition. Master of Public Health (MPH) in Public Health, 5. Master of Public Health (MPH) in Reproductive Health.
